Chinatown OWNERS AND TRADERS

We have created this Traders page to help keep owners and traders of Chinatown informed and up to date on activities and construction works happening in the precinct. 

CONSTRUCTION UPDATES:

  • Construction works in Chinatown are back in full swing following the wet season shut-down in January and February.

  • Major construction works are scheduled for completion by late April, followed by soft landscaping, public art and street furniture installations.

  • Regular updates are being posted on Facebook and Instagram, and for important project information and announcements please ensure you are subscribed to Chinatown eNews (via the ‘Newsletter’ subscribe form located on the homepage):

  • Download HERE a printable poster of the above schedule to display in your shop or office.

  • Construction workers will be onsite: Monday to Saturday 7am – 5pm each week.

  • Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout construction with all shops and stores open as normal.

Chinatown road closures and detours

  • From Wednesday 20 March, Dampier Tce becomes one way, and a section of Carnarvon St remains closed with construction in full swing. Businesses and shops in Chinatown are open as normal throughout the entire construction period.

  • The Chinatown Revitalisation Project is assisting with deliveries and rubbish collection while roads are closed.

  • New timed 2 hour free parking will be in place for some central locations within Chinatown during the wet season to allow for consistent turnover of customer parking.

  • Free all-day parking is available at the Visitor Centre and Paspaley Plaza off Short Street and additional free all-day parking will be available on Male Oval off Carnarvon Street.

  • For Chinatown traders wishing to use the Broome Chinatown logo in their business collateral, please download the logo here along with the style guide here. Please note the logo already has the exclusion zone applied for your convenience.

  • Traders received a copy of the Small Business Development Commission booklet ‘Preparing for public works - a guide for small business’ to help assist with preparing for the road works. To download a copy, click here.

  • Traders of Chinatown are welcome to borrow the Chinatown HQ gazebos for any upcoming activities or events within the Chinatown precinct.   • Introducing the Chinatown Discovery Festival, 24-26 May 2019. Calling all local community groups and businesses to register your event to be a part of the program. Click here and follow the instructions.

  • Construction in Chinatown: Monday 8 October - Saturday 22 December 2018

    Roads will re-open from 22 December 2018. From mid-February there will be short term road closures and traffic re-directions occurring while hard and soft landscaping is being completed (shade structures, planting etc.).  Estimated project finish is April/ May 2019.

  • The new Roebuck Bay Lookout is open to the community from Friday 16 November 2018. Read the full story here.

  • From Monday 17 December to Tuesday 8 January Chinatown HQ will be closed.

  • Look out for adverts in the local Broome Advertiser promoting shopping in Chinatown during construction. Including discount coupons and special Chinatown Construction Sales.

  • Small activities grants available to all Chinatown traders to encourage them to provide additional in store activities and participate in the precincts planned community events.   • Construction is commencing soon in Chinatown with road closures and detours occurring from Monday 8 October until April 2019.   • Downer EDI Works have been awarded contract for streetscape and public realm improvement works, which include the Carnarvon St and Dampier Tce upgrades commencing this month (September 2018). To read the full story, please click here.

  • On 3 September 2018, Harby Studios ran a marketing workshop for Chinatown Traders. This workshop covered low cost marketing initiatives that could be implemented during and post construction.

  • The RFQ for the Carnarvon Street and Dampier Terrace street works is currently being advertised and we expect to have a contractor on board by August 2018. A detailed program for the construction works will be developed with the preferred contractor and we will be keeping you informed as this progresses, however a key focus will be to stage and schedule the works to prevent disruption to business.

  • Project planners and managers walked around town week commencing 25 June 2018 to chat to traders about upcoming works in their area.
