Applications for 2018 Chinatown Grants now closed

Applications for the 2018 Chinatown Revitalisation Grants for activation projects and laneway enhancements closed on 16 February.

The 2017 grant recipients are nearing completion of their projects. Among these, Broome carpenter and artisan Lachlan Fraser, is completing micro scale-sized replicas of iconic Chinatown buildings including the original Johnny Chi Lane and the Shell Sorting Shed. Created in painstaking detail, the models will be housed for the public to enjoy in Johnny Chi Lane.

The Chinatown fashion landmark, Betty’s Frock Shop, will benefit from an exciting new façade upgrade for this highly visible Carnarvon St business to enhance the Asiatic heritage of the area.

Finally, the renovation of the Old Kinney’s Store on Carnarvon St is reaching completion with the Revitalisation supporting the installation of a large artwork on the façade of the renovated building that will be visible from many points in the Johnny Chi Laneways, attracting more people to the area.
