Shire growing thousands of plants for inclusion in project

With Stage Two of the Chinatown Revitalisation Project underway, we thought we would share an exciting update. The Shire of Broome team has been busy growing hundreds of amazing, colourful trees and thousands of plants for inclusion in the project.

Instead of using ratepayer funds and State Government grants to purchase established trees, Shire Leading Hand Horticulturalist Simone Fletcher has established an impressive nursery for the benefit of the local natural environment.

Made up of species indigenous to the Broome region and some imported additions, there are over 30 different varieties of trees of various sizes and shapes sprouting up.

As part of the Stage Two works, not all existing trees in Chinatown will be able to be retained within the new streetscape design, however the project will deliver a green aesthetic streetscape to build on what was delivered through Stage 1.

We are excited to see these wonderful trees starting to be planted across Broome and anticipating the cooling effect they will have on the Chinatown precinct!
