Exciting year ahead for the Revitalisation

As President of the Shire of Broome, I am excited by what the Chinatown Revitalisation will bring to the community in 2018. During this year we will be undertaking construction works to improve the streetscape, working with the community to deliver events, and supporting businesses to improve the area’s offering.

So far with the project, we have spent a lot of time working on the planning and during 2017 we went to the community to confirm the direction of the master plan for the area.  We have heard your feedback and are now finalising designs and future initiatives that consider:

  • Business trading hours
  • Activation
  • Car parking
  • Pedestrian movements
  • Markets
  • Laneway activation climate considerations
  • Road safety

Another key piece of feedback we heard from the community is the importance of minimising disruption to business during construction.

The project team is explicitly focused on avoiding business disruption and will be working with the Broome Chamber of Commerce and Industry and specific businesses to ensure disruption is minimised.

Outside of construction there are many opportunities for the community to get involved with the Revitalisation whether through events or in speaking with the Chinatown Investment and Development Coordinator to see how we can support your ideas. I encourage everyone to get back to Chinatown and get involved with the exciting change that is going to happen in 2018.
