The Shire of Broome Council has selected a preferred tenderer to undertake Stage Two construction works, last week endorsing Chief Executive Officer Sam Mastrolembo to negotiate the final details of the construction contract with the preferred tenderer, Georgiou Group.

Stage Two of the Chinatown Revitalisation Project has reached an important milestone, with the Shire of Broome Council endorsing a preferred tenderer to undertake construction works.

It’s the time of year when something special occurs in Broome as the magical Sammy the Dragon is awakened to herald the start of the annual Shinju Matsuri Festival which celebrates the multicultural history and diverse community that makes Broome the incredible place it is.

The first major event to take place in Chinatown this year is set to attract crowds as the hugely popular Ladies’ Night returns for the third time to Broome’s historical and commercial heart on Friday, August 7.

The Chinatown Revitalisation Project has reached a major milestone this week with the release of tender documents seeking a main contractor for the Stage Two construction works. Input and feedback from community members, stakeholders and Chinatown traders in the early planning days has helped form the project’s masterplan and played a key role in the designs.

Thank you to everyone who attended our information sessions recently, to learn about the designs for Stage Two. At the sessions, stakeholders were briefed on the progress of the proposed streetscape designs, which are now 85% complete.

The Shire of Broome is progressing with Stage 2 of the Chinatown Revitalisation Project, with a timeline issued to keep stakeholders and the community up to speed.

“The refurbishment of Streeter’s Jetty is included in Stage 2 of the Chinatown Revitalisation project and the upcoming works will ensure that locals and tourists alike can enjoy it for many years to come.”

The Chinatown Revitalisation Project has been recognised with an award for Excellence in Urban Renewal. Broome Shire President, Harold Tracey, says the award is due recognition for the whole of the Broome community that collaborated on the exciting project.

“This is an exciting project and we are grateful to the State Government for its support for the Shire of Broome’s vision.”
